Yesterday an air cond. repair guy came to fix our AC, very nice and efficient! Anywho on to it!!!
When he was having me sign the work order he asked if the art work on the walls were my creations ....to that I replied YES!! He said he loved this piece and asked me all about it,......... then asked if it was for sale. You can only imagine my shock and elation, could have knocked me over with a feather :>)!!! I said yes took and it off the wall so he could see the tag with the title and price. He said I WANT IT, he went out to his truck and got his ck book. Wooohooooo!!!!

How often could something like this happen OMG this is too GREAT!!!

This is done in acrylics the boarder is from a collage piece I had done. I just tore the collage into pieces and walla a boarder.

Who are you?
I am a full time artist...I say that but after moving here among the trees last Oct. there are many projects that we have done both inside and out, not leaving as much time for my art.
What do you love about where you live?
The trees!!!!!
What might your perfect afternoon look like?
Sitting out at the pool among the trees creating art of course, with some great music playing in the background.
If you had an hour alone in your studio/creative space, what would you do?
I would concentrate on the book I want to write BUT to many other things seem to get in the way of just sitting down and working on it!
Right now, what are some of your favorite things?
Same as above the trees, there are just so many we are hugged by them! I tell people the trees were here long before us, they own us or let us share in their glory.
What foods nourish your soul?
Creative salads and sweet and salty bars yum!!!
When you simply need to take a breath and reground yourself, what do you do?
Take 3 or 4 deep breaths in and out then sit for meditation, nothing gets me to where I need to be better than meditation!
How do you nurture your creative dreams?
By CREATING the more momentum is made to create more! Also teaching is a great way to nourish my creative dreams there are some many ways to do one thing or interpret instructions. I learn by the students and that blooms into more and better art.
Does your heart have a secret wish you want to share?
H E L L O ....it's called a secret for a reason :>)

The Violin project

The pic on the left is the back of the violin and the front is on the right.
This took me forever since it's not flat, but I had a ton of fun creating it. I knew I wanted to do something about space and that was my jumping off point. This will be shown all around town till Dec. and then it will be auctioned off for the Jr Orchestra.
Most of the work was done with free form spray paint and then I worked some pis out in Phothoshop for the collaged pieces. Click photo for larger view.

Fun fun fun!!! This was a project that initially went very wrong. I had cut out a stencil wanting a 3 layer stencil. But when I went to spray it the layers did not work or line up. So when you've got lemons make lemonade!

I took 3 of the cut outs and I had just put them on a piece of paper......Ericka! An idea born out of play, you just have to love creating!

Here is my simple assemblage piece for
Seth's brain child project.

This was created from some of the items I had weathering outside for months. Newspaper, metal and telephone book pages. I did not spray or paint any finish on anything. This piece will most likely evolve even more, but for the project I thought it best to stop here to be true to Seth's project. Enjoy!!!

Online ONGOING metal Embossing Class

I have taught in my studio, at the galleries, at speciality stores and more. So I figured the logical next step is to teach online classes.

The first class I will be teaching is a Metal Embossing and Coloring Class. Metal embossing can be added to almost any other medium, just think of the possibilities. This class is an ongoing class you can sign up anytime, take it in your PJ's at your leisure!!!!

The class will have many techniques for embossing and coloring, a sunken piece and a puffy piece and many more techniques and tips. The class will run generally 4 weeks but the sign ups for the first class will get an extra bonus class. The class will have sign ups till June 10th for the first class.

I have been published before, but it's been a while. I asked Gail Pierce and Val Foster if they wanted to do a collaboration journal, they were up for it! They sent me their pages and I put it together and sent it off. We had never ever heard from our contact and it has been a loooooong time!!! Anywho Gail was on someones blog and this artist got an early copy, we are in it with a circle journal, a journal all about circles.

I'm so excited about this I can hardly stand myself :>)

Dreams

This has to be my all time favorite, I will not be selling it, I may only show it. Again some of this is from the class I'm taking and teaching with Gary's blessing.

This shows sooooooo much better in person. Before the background was started that was given as the assignment, I collaged papers onto the substrate then did the background and lastly created art for the piece...simple yet effective.

Anyway this is my sweet sweet dog the body I stamped with all hand carved stamps. There is about 6 layers on this piece. Fun fun piece to create.

I got together with an friend for an art play day.

She showed me a new technique, and even though most of the techniques was covered, I was pleased with the final piece.

This piece is on a 12 x 12 deep canvas and the sides are painted that same green seen in the photo.

This is the photo after the snow, papers were soaked all the way through and the copper is changing nicely. I decided to turn the papers around.

So they are still holding together and we will see how they progress.

This was a challenge on the Gary Reef Ning. This is a departure from my style and I had a fantastic time creating it.

I used a large transfer for the main image....I don't draw much:>) I then whited out the clothing and or bodies with gesso. Painted each a different color and than applied a lot of gold and sliver and the small designs were painted on.

I must admit I have a hard time taking photos of art behind glass and art that is shiny, this was no exception. I hope you like it I really enjoyed the process and I do like it.

It has been snowing since yesterday so you can imagine my amazement when I went to ck on my disintegration bundle.

What bundle? Well it's under there some where!!!

I know I said I wanted snow for my bundle, but this is not what I was thinking! What was I thinking:>)!!! I haven't seen this much snow in years and especilly not while living here in VA.

I noticed many people in this project hung their bundles in trees. I have mine on the ground in a rusted engine piece, so it's now totally covered:>)

I have been on vacation and just learned about this recently. But now I'm fill steam ahead....

I have taken pages from the white pages of the phone book then I wrapped pieces of copper around each bundle. Long ago I got this engine metal piece at the junk yard, it's been sitting outside for at least a year itself! So I took the bundles and placed them in the portion I could get the most paper covered by the rust.

I'm hoping for rain or snow so that the paper will all rust along with the copper.

This happens to be our first snow and I believe it's still snowing. In the spring I ignore the houses in the court and just marvel at the trees. Weather they are naked or a full wardrobe of leaves is heaven to me. What's your view from your studio window?

Fat book technique

OK so I hardly ever do swaps these days but I got all hyped when I heard about this Fat Book Swap....then the clincher we had to do 120 pages! I must admit most of the time it was tons of fun. So the swap had to be a technique using homemade, cheep or recycled art supplies.

So here is the technique: I took paint I bought eons ago from the hardware store ......yes house paint:>) Let that dry then used a 2nd color, put it on with an old credit card then take a comb or anything and run it through scraping off the top layer of paint where the comb hits, let that dry completely.
Cut out a recognisable picture from an old magazine, turn it over....is it recognizable? If so use it. Hold it down or tape it with re-positional tape or glue. Take a stencil brush and dip it in gesso then take much of it off on a paper towel, brush in a feather motion away from the center, go around the entire image. Take off stencil and let dry.

Zany Obama pin in honor of our new President!

I have a Mixed Media Club here in VA....anywho last Sat. one of the members did a class rather than a mini workshop, we had a blast!!!

I believe she called the pin's we were making Zany pins. We learned many techniques but when I came back to my studio I didn't want to go through all the steps to make the pin. So I used paste paper that I created eons ago, cut pieces out with the Cuttlebug, embossed them with the same tool , did a bit more work on the pieces, then glued all the pieces together. Poked holes at the bottom and hung some bling, then finished off with a pin back. Click on the photo to get a larger and close up view.

This pin I know looks large but it is a coat pin. So many emotions ran thru my veins, heart, soul and mind about all the goings on yesterday in DC. I just had to make something commemorating the emotions, celebrations and the pride I felt.

I will be selling these pins but appropriate for clothing rather than a coat pin. I will sell these in my Etsy shop. They are not up yet so no link yet, but I will post when they are ready sell and buy.

Some sad news

As you know I'm teaching an altered book round robin class. There is an artist that was taking the class that has past away. Her and her husband were coming back from a road trip and were killed instantly by a drunk driver.

She is the woman in the yellow apron on photos below.

This woman was an angel on earth, she ALWAYS had a smile on her face, always looking for humor in everything and lived life to the fullest and celebrated celebrated life. I felt honoured to be in her life as a friend and with her taking the class, I will try to smile more, lighten up and even though I try to live life to the fullest I will try even harder.

There are people in this world that not only touch us personally but touch people globally that is who this couple was.

They will be missed but the gifts they left everyone are so great we can't help but to follow their lead.

The Heart of Matters

Yes another assemblage but I had decided to do a series of spiritual assemblage's. My muse had other ideas and other inspirations. It's still one of my goals but it has to be put on the back burner for now:>)

This assemblage took about 1 week to make just because of drying times, here in VA we have humid summers, hence the long drying times.

The inside has the great Ganesh, a turtle for luck and a wonderful amethyst crystal, a slide which contains fabric and the word Namaste. The copper piece at the top I picked up form the ground, who knows where or when. The little dome copper pieces on the front I got from a utopia box with freebies when I ran a Mixed Media club in TX. Also there is handmade paper inside and beaded trim adoring it. The outside of the box was a blast to create with so many mediums, stamps, cheesecloth and paints. I hope you enjoy your journey into this little gem.

Altered book Class next technique!

Next background: they are working on in class. Everyone works in practice books, that way they can get comfy with the technique. Then when they go to work in some one else's book they feel confident about the technique and can just glide into to creating mode.

Theses students are artists in their own right and it is a joy teaching each and every one of them.

TV interview

My TV interview has come and gone, it was an absolutely awesome experience!!!

I was a little nervous and a ton excited I kept telling myself to stay on the excited side and it worked!

The artist that interviewed me is wonderful, she made me very comfy, we taped for 8 minutes with all of my art surrounding the both of us. Then a few second break then started another 8 minutes. Then the camera man said cut since the 2nd part did not tape. We proceeded and before I knew it we were finished.

They will contact me when it's going to be shown here sometime in Aug. and send me a DVD. I will have to figure out how to get it on my blog or see if I can find someone that can tell me how to do that.

All in all an incredibly awesome experience. I want to thank you all for all your comments and support leading up to the interview. It meant a lot to me.

Exciting News

I had done a show a few months ago and was approached to do a TV interview on Comcast for a show called Artscape. I was told it might be sometime in the Fall.

Again I was contacted a few days ago about that interview and I spoke to the artist that interviews this morning . She informed me we could do the interview next Fri the 18 of July.
I'm so excited about this I can hardly stand myself :>)

Just wanted to share my news:>) I forgot to ask her, but I'm going to see if I can't get a video of the interview for my blog .....we shall seeeeeeeeeee!

This is a box I stared for a collaboration project. 2 of us worked on it and submitted to publication. Unfortunately it did not fly.

So what you see here is the work I did, then I sent it off to the other artist.

I was going for an old rusty look with the paint and adding some rusty items. Fun, fun piece to work on. The piece is no longer in my possession.

Commission Pieces

This is another commission piece I just delivered last week, called "A point In Time" capturing all the old things. On the front, sides, back and inside of the box is layers of paint, cheesecloth and tissue paper. The front of the box has a tin type photo and under it is a piece of mica. Inside all kinds of little buttons to play with and a light bulb with a guy on a 3 wheel bike. This piece was very time consuming, but a ton of fun to create and figure out how to get everything to stay glued down :>)

Rusted Textile Items

This was all an experiment to do rust on fabric and fibers. I had bought a hue piece of something from a scrap yard all rusted and added rusted nails, nut, bolts and screws. These are the results on

fibers lace and silk fabric. I did not include all the photos but theses are a good overview.

Our Anniversary June 2008

We celebrated our Anniversary yesterday, but the really shocking part is that my hubby sent me flowers............ but not just flowers a dozen red ROESES for the very first time ever!!!!! We have been married longer than time. I was so thrilled I could hardly stand myself:>) I told him the world is his and I asked him what he wanted .....he said make it cooler LOL!

The card you see above is the card I created for him.....yes he did love it :>) It is layers of paint and texture. The letters are grunge board letters with paint and a bit of ultra thick embossing powder.

This is a workshop I'm taking on The Artist Circle Beryl talor technique. First I took Tyvek, cover it with watered down glue/ added pieces of security envelopes and a bit of text/ added more glue/ added tissue gold tissue paper with a pattern/ more glue/ added white tissue paper. Waited till it was completely dry and put on a red glaze.

I'm going to either keep it as a background for art or cut it up and use in other art pieces. I have not yet decided. Ck back soon for it's next chapter.

I'm thinking very seriously...or as serious as I can get :>) Anywho if I was to offer and altered book class online how many of you would take it? It would be a 6 to 8 week class. Please pass this around I'd like to get a feel if there would be big interest in this.

This is a class I'm teaching at the FCCA gallery in VA. The class is an Altered Book Round Robin class. When starting out everyone taking the class wanted me to also participate. At first I wasn't crazy about this idea since I knew I'd be doing a ton of work for the classes themselves. But now that I have been working on the book to be traded, I have to say I'm having an awesome time. I have some brilliant artists taking the class and the work produced I think will be over the top!

So what they have been instructed to do in the 1st class, this book belongs to page, instructions page, sign in pages and glue and area for a niche that will be taught at the end. The class will run once a month for 8 months. 2nd class I taught 5 to 6 different ways to do transfer, collage and glazes. Each class they will be given 2 to 3 techniques, in turn we will create 2 spreads.

This page is my this belongs to page layers and layers of paint, different types of lettering, metal words along the 3 edges of the book, stamped image, utte circle cut in half and glued in 2 areas and grunge board. Fun page to do!

I have done a full explanation of this page on the next post. But the piece that says pull is a fold down piece with part of a dictionary page with applied walnut ink, stamped and a metal pull tab added.

Class my Instructions and theme

The theme for my AB is "Excavation of the Muse or Soul" I had so much to say in my instructions, I had to add another fold out piece. I loved the you tube Tim Holtz did on grungeboard so much I had to do the exact piece a heart, wings and a crown.

There are layers upon layers of paint on this page, the word "instructions" I made out of those foam letters again with layers of paint on the letters themselves.

There is also a bit of fabric on the far left. The piece under the actual instructions is a long piece of plain grunge board painted. Since I'm working in a dictionary I decided to add some walnut ink to a page then tore it and added to the top of the grunge board on top of that the instructions themselves. Glazes were used on top of the instructions.

I really love how this page turned out. My muse Bhanu is having an absolute blast!

Class 1st spread

This is the spread from one of the techniques "TRANSFERS" I taught them 5 or 6 different ways to do transfers. The quote at the top is a gel med. transfer and the Go within is a tape transfer. This was also a prompt from a journaling yahoo group it had to do with the spiral.

For a while now my muse Bhanu has been enthralled with the color red I have no idea why but it is a very different direction for my work.

Deco swap

This is my page in this little wonderful deco, it will now go on to another artist. No these are not super tall nurses they are on stilts :>) The background was a technique given by Trish, paint a paper towel black, let it dry, crumple it and then take paint I used Stewart Gill Byzantia iluminata a lime color, and lightly painted over the high creases.

I know I have not posted in a long while, I have been super busy with all kinds of deadlines, but I'm getting myself out from under it, so soon I will will be blogging on a more regular bases. Thanks for being so patient and supportive!

Just dropping in for a quick note

Quite of few artists and myself were in a show at Mercedes Benz last Sat. It was called The Platform Party VA: Jumping In With Both Feet. They are trying to promote the art and artists locally.

It was awesome with all kinds of artists featured, from belly dancers to young dancers to singers, bands, culinary artists and a fashion show. All the artists set up around the perimeter of the show room and then in other areas also. It was both fun and exhausting night since some of us had a 5 hour workshop during the day.

At the show I was approached to do a TV interview with my assemblage art pieces for the show "Art Around Town" I believe that's what it is. It's going to happen toward the end of the year, so I'm just going to be working on my art. I'm very excited but it is a way off still.

I just wanted to leave a note here to let you, especially my fans and those of you that come to ck things out here often. I may not be posting as much in the next 15 to 30 days for 2 reasons:
1) I have some commission work that I have been working on.
2) There are 2 collaborations that I'm way too excited about. I'working with some very talented and awesome artists. Man I'm soooooooooooooo excited I can hardly stand myself :>)

Long ago I wrote in a journal daily................keyword wrote!!! It always left me flat, unexciting! I also did art journals where I would do sketches or put down my ideas and the 3rd would be for the down times of my life, it was a way to work through my grief, stress whatever.
But now I have new blood and I'm playing in the journals, that same info is going in them but in a whole different way. Not only am I working in them but having a awesome time making the journals from scratch!

Some of you may have seen the largest journal I have made to date, it's on the blog below. Anyway I created this journal for getting through my stuff....but then I found that not much was going in it...so it's now for journal exercises, stress, playing.....anything goes. So like all my art one page may be a total different medium and feeling.

Invisable

This is a commission piece I created and delivered today. The invisible I had seen somewhere on the net but I just felt this woman must have been or felt that way.

I was given a box of old things and they asked me to do a couple of commission pieces. I will most likely do 4 or 5 pieces.

The top of this was a piece that was in the box I received, the hook thingie. that hook at the top spins,. I found out when I delivered it is some kind of a lock. I took what I think was a perfume tray, bent the legs so it would stand. Painted many layers of 3 different colors to make it have the look of patina. One of the photos from the box I scanned and tripled the photo, that is at the bottom, then did 2 photos in the main area but cut one so it is 3 D. The metal flourish piece on the front bottom is who knows from what, I picked up. There's check behind the flat photo and the flourish at the top is grunge-board.

Insparation Thursday PEACE

This is a piece I just finished for Inspiration Thursday. I was very inspired since it's the 50th anniversary of the PEACE symbol for the month of April.

I have many layers on this piece and then collaged newspaper clippings from our day and age. Then I applied different glazes. Printed the words"All We Are Saying Is Give Peace (PEACE sign) A Chance" on handmade paper and applied it around the entire edge of the piece. The last thing I added after carving a PEACE sign was to stamp that on the piece and emboss those PEACE signs. Click on photo to see more detail.

Acrylic paint transfer

You might have seen Claudine's Utube demo of transfers with Dabbers if not it's on my blog for right now ....ck it out!

Anywho I only had 1 dabber and it is light green and I wanted more a feeling of a Faux tin type....well I got all carried way and added some crackle. So much for the faux tin type:>)

This was the result, I used a copy I really didn't care about, not knowing what the results would be.

Grass technique

This comes from Trish Next-Gen Stampers Noise background techniques.

Take a sturdy paper like watercolor paper/ apply glue cover the entire piece of paper / sprinkle herbs all over the glue till there is no paper at all showing/ wait for it to dry..........completely!!!! shake off any loose herbs/ paint with acrylics, assorted greens and browns for a grass look or other colors for just another textured background.

This is a piece that has changed numerous times, last color it was was gold.

But a call for artists came up for "art about food" So the entire thing changed to eggplant and greens. I added the eggplant and Ken doll head, fun piece to do. I'm waiting to see if it will be accepted.

The other part of the show is, food as art! I think on that one is due on the day of the show. When the show ends everyone gets to eat the art :>) So what are your ideas food for art? I need ideas!!!! It has to be totally made edible food.

Cracked Up Glass House

This stained glass house was quite a challenge. I have worked with a lot of stained glass but this piece was going to see if it could make my muse (Bhanu) stretch just a bit more :>)
Sandwiched between the glass in the walls, roof, pictures, windows and floors are art papers I have created.
It's a cracked up house because the last thing I did to the house I heard this horrible sound and I looked all over the house and I found that one of the walls cracked inside. It was all in tact so I had the crack work for the piece:>)

This was a fun but time consuming piece. First I made the house then the entire piece was collaged with foreign language pieces of pages and music from books. After that the fun came in with all kinds of mixtures of colors. I have never decided what or where I want to go with this, but I love it!

The technique posted to link Next-Generation-Stampers@yahoogroups.com The 1st photo is the background I started with a technique I learned in a workshop but for some reason I had no use for this particular one. So I thought I'd collage a bit on it then do the cracked glass technique. 2nd photo I used an black ink pad, though I was not thrilled with it. 3rd photo added reinker ink to it and now love it.
I have done this technique many times in the past but it was great to revisit it, thanks Trish.

I have changed my blog to a black background, I have always loved how art looks on a black background...it seems to make it pop. So this is my 3rd go round with blog background changes :>) I really wanted to go with black to begin with but I had heard that some people can not view websites and blogs with black backgrounds.

What do you think of the new look and about why people that can't see websites and blogs with black backgrounds?

This is a gift i gave to my niece for her 19th birthday.

I created this unlike anything else I create, I drew it out first!

I had a dream and was inspired to go the direction of theses colors. When I first looked at what I thought was the finished piece I DID NOT like it. OK so then I added trim, glass pebbles, stamped images, sequins and beads. Once all that was done I liked the piece and felt good about giving as a gift.

OK I finally decided to join in on all the fun. This is a deco swap on the Nextgeneration-Stampers yahoo group. The book had to be no bigger than 4 x 5

I decided to make a handmade book. I was surprised at how may pages I could get in this little book :>) The pages are white card stock, heaver than typical paper so everyone can have a better background to create on.

Gallery Show

Going on right now I have a gallery show in VA. I have posted a lot of the work I have in the show. I did not include it all and some are a bit blurry. The art will hang till March 1, 2008.

We had the first Fri opening on Feb. 1st it was wonderfully received and has been a great experience. The show takes place in a gallery here in VA that is in a historic building, very UN-typical of a gallery but an awesome venue to show in. I was accepted last Nov. for the Feb. show, artists submit work and it goes to a jury. At that time they choose artists for the year, it has been a great honour to have been chosen.

Stained glass, encaustics, collage, watercolor, felting, assemblage, photos and pottery were all included in the show.

I did the show with another artist, but I'm not showing that work on the blog.
